The Loving Parents Behind Our Maltipoo Puppies
At Happy Tails Maltipoos, our parent dogs are not kept as commercial breeding animals. They live with our family, receive daily attention and are treated as beloved companions. Our program is intentionally small, allowing us to know each dog’s personality, behavior, health history and individual needs.
Before becoming part of our breeding program, each parent receives health screening and veterinary care for relevant inherited and physical health concerns. Our parent dogs have no known health issues identified through their completed evaluations. Each parent is bred no more than twice before retirement, helping us protect their long-term health and wellbeing.
Parents receive genetic and breed-relevant health screening before entering our program.
Every parent lives in a loving family setting and receives regular affection and interaction.
We limit each parent to no more than two litters before retirement from breeding.
Retirement means continued love, comfort and care—not the end of being part of our family.

Our Maltipoo Parent Health-Testing Program
Responsible breeding begins before a litter is planned. We review each parent’s health history, temperament, physical condition and breed background before considering a pairing. Our health-testing approach is intended to reduce avoidable hereditary risks and help us make more informed breeding decisions.
DNA testing is helpful, but it does not replace veterinary care or physical examinations. We combine genetic screening with routine veterinary assessment and ongoing observation of each parent’s mobility, eyes, heart, skin, coat, teeth, weight and general health.
- Breed-relevant genetic screening
- General veterinary wellness examination
- Patella and joint evaluation when appropriate
- Heart and eye assessment when recommended
- Ongoing weight and physical-condition monitoring
- Temperament and family-suitability evaluation
Health Comes Before Breeding
A planned pairing may be postponed or cancelled if either parent is not in suitable physical condition. Completing a health test does not guarantee that a dog will be bred. The wellbeing of the parent always comes first.
Families may ask us about the health screening completed for the parents of a particular puppy. We aim to communicate clearly and honestly about our program and our puppies.
Read Our Health GuaranteeOur Parents Are Family Dogs First
Happy Tails Maltipoos is not a high-volume kennel or commercial breeding facility. We have been raising Maltipoos for approximately 15 years, and our dogs live as part of our household rather than being treated only as breeding animals.
They interact with our family, children and extended family members. They experience normal home sounds, daily routines, playtime, rest, grooming and individual affection. This allows us to understand each parent beyond appearance or pedigree.
Our parent dogs receive affection, handling, play and attention as part of normal family life.
Our small program prioritizes thoughtful pairings and responsible care rather than frequent litters.
After a maximum of two litters, each parent retires from breeding and continues life as a cherished companion.
A Note About Puppy Size and Coat
Parent weight, breed and coat color help us estimate possible puppy characteristics, but they do not guarantee a puppy’s exact adult weight, coat shade, coat texture or appearance. Every puppy inherits a unique combination of traits and may mature differently from its parents or littermates.
